About the VOICES4 Hotline

The State of Michigan’s VOICES4 Hotline is free, confidential, and anonymous. Advocates are available 24/7 to support anyone impacted by sexual assault, domestic violence, or human trafficking. Every call, text, chat, or TTY connection is answered by a trained advocate who provides crisis support, resources, and referrals. Survivors decide how much or how little to share, and every interaction is an opportunity to be heard, believed, and supported.

What is sexual assault?

Sexual assault is when a person forces or pressures another person into unwanted sexual contact. This can be unwanted sexual penetration of the body or unwanted touching of private parts of the body. Some, but not all perpetrators force unwanted sexual contact when a victim is asleep, unconscious, under the influence of alcohol or drugs or physically helpless. Michigan law refers to sexual assault as “Criminal Sexual Conduct”.

What is domestic violence?

The State of Michigan defines domestic violence as a pattern of learned behavior in which one person uses physical, sexual, and emotional abuse to control another person against a household or family member. You don’t have to be married to someone to be a victim of domestic violence.

What is human trafficking?

The recruitment, harboring, transportation, provision, or obtaining of a person for the purpose of labor, or a commercial sex act, by force, fraud, or coercion.
